Wig stand for cancer patients
Back in February 2021 the woodturning club i am a part of started collecting wig stands to donate to a local cancer support charity in Princeton NJ. I made 2 basic ones out of some nice spalted wood. Then decided to make one more but do something a little over the top. This video series will show you the steps to making a wood turned wig stand into the shape of a flower. These steps can be used for many woodturning projects. Cancer is a tough thing to go through. If you have the ability to make a stand to donate many charities like this would be grateful for the donation.
In this episode I will show the steps i took to turn a wig stand and prep it for carving it into something special. You will see how to shape the top and the spindle to prepare it for carving a flower.
In this episode I take the turned wig stand and do some carving to create a flower. I use a variety of tools to make this including a hand saw, A flex shaft reciprocating hand piece and A flex shaft rotary tool. Plus a lot of hand sanding.
In this episode i complete the wood turned then carved wig stand by adding some airbrush painting to it. I use a gravity fed airbrush with water based acrylic paints made for airbrushes to color the flower. You will see how to fade in colors and use different shades to make shadows.
